Staff Spotlight: Q&A with Workers’ Compensation Specialist Ashlyn Wilson

April 2023

Q. How long have you been working at Blue Ridge Orthopaedic?

Since June 9, 2021

Q. What is your job title?

Worker’s Compensation Specialist

Q. What does your job entail?

My job entails making sure workers’ compensation claims get handled as smoothly as possible. I make sure a patient’s treatment gets approved through the workers comp insurance and that the insurance pays those dates of services for that patient.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

Worker’s compensation can be confusing, so helping anyone to ease the process of what steps to take and make sure they are getting everything they need to make it easier for them.

Q. How would you describe your team?

I am the only workers’ comp specialist. I work along with the insurance team at Blue Ridge who can help when needed which I am very grateful for.

Q. What is one professional skill you are actively developing?

Currently, I am working on fighting for claims to be paid through the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission. They are the overall “umbrella” over workers’ comp insurance and learning the proceedings to be able to fight claims for patients that have not been paid.

Q. What is your favorite productivity hack?

Sticky Notes

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

By that point, I hope to be starting a family.

Q. What were you doing before this?

I graduated from undergrad in 2020 and was working with an

accountant.

Q. What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Fight for yourself. Only you can advocate for yourself and your work.

Q. What’s the best advice you were ever given?

Nothing is given. Everything is earned.

Q. What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

Intelligence analyst.

Q. What profession would you definitely NOT like to do?

Dentist

Q. What county do you live in?

Culpeper

Q. What do you like best about your county?

I am originally from North Carolina so just being in a new county

and continuing finding new place is great.

Q. What is your favorite local business?
