Michael J. Poss

Dr. Poss is board-certified in both pain management and anesthesiology with over 25 years of experience treating orthopedic conditions.
Dr. Poss joined Blue Ridge Orthopaedic & Spine Center in 2023. He is a double board-certified physician and has been treating painful orthopedic conditions for over 25 years. He has extensive experience with the latest non-surgical and minimally-invasive modalities, including regenerative medicine and ultrasound therapy.
He is a certified Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice, and board certified by both the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians and American Board of Anesthesiology. He was past President of the Virginia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and his other professional affiliations include the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps, the non-profit organization Veterans in Pain, the American Society of Anesthesiology, and the American Medical Association. He is listed as one of the “150 Pain Management Physicians to Know” by Becker’s ASC Review.

Prior to his residency training and career as a pain management physician, Dr. Poss served as a United States Naval Medical Officer.
education & Certifications
Following his military service, Dr. Poss completed his residency at Wake Forest University Baptist School of Medicine. As a student, he was awarded the Research Triangle Park Award for Excellence in Studies and the Wake Forest University Award for Excellence in Student Research.
